The caldera is still Maasai pastureland, it is getting drier, dustier, bumpier, more extreme! Unsuspecting people think – there is nothing here. Again and again Massais appear on the horizon, cattle trucks, many landcruisers … what these cars can endure! At the crossing to the Serengeti I am allowed to get out, bush toilet next to lizards. The Kati Kati Tented Camp is reached after sunset. The panting of the lion, the sneaking up of the lioness, the relaxing of the leopard at the liverwurst tree, the pacing of the cheetah in the savannah grass, birds, young elephants next to a huge bull, a hyena lying in the wheel track, countless hippos in the mud pool, a crocodile at the waterhole, … remain in eternal memory. Grandiose or indescribable at all? Never had this imagination that this stretch of land would be so close to me. The soul is a vast land …
